Key Points

The documents for recycling and environmental impacting substances are to declare the substances and materials used in articles (parts) and certify the non-use of prohibited substances. Substances which are designated as NES M0301 must be declared by IMDS.

Minimum Content Requirements

Suppliers must comply with the Nissan Engineering Standard requirements and each applicable country or state legislation relating to recycling and environmental impacting substances. The relevant Nissan Engineering Standards are:

  1. NES M0301 "Substance Use Restrictions"
  2. NES D0031 "Marking of Polymeric Parts"
Document Description

Suppliers are required to input and submit the following information.
  • IMDS : Declaration Table for Substances
IMDS is an automotive web based system for the confidential submission of the materials and substances used in every component part.
A Nissan IMDS input instruction manual entitled "IMDS Data Entry Procedure" is available from the following web site:

IMDS homepage http://www.mdsystem.com --> IMDS Public Pages --> FAQs --> OEM Specific Info --> Nissan IMDS data entry procedure

For components which will be sent to the destinations of Europe, Korea and China either as part of a complete vehicle or for assembly in those destinations, the supplier is required to input and submit IMDS data for all parts and materials.
For other regions, the suppliers are required to meet the Nissan requirement as directed.
Suppliers should confirm the destination of their components with Nissan during the development stage.

If the material content inputted into IMDS has changed due to a design change, process change, sub-supplier change etc., the supplier is required to update IMDS data before supply to Nissan.

If a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) has been identified by REACH regulation, the supplier is required to input and submit IMDS data before supply to Nissan.

For rules related to document submission, refer to the Submission Rules page.
